Take a look at the FLYER I received in the mail:
What do you find interesting about this election ad? What in the world is the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee?" Who is on this committee? Why is there no return address or a phone number? At first glance it appears the ad wants me to think the Wasatch Health Department is endorsing a candidate for Heber City Council. But that can't be right... Can it??
I'm concerned because the ELECTION is tomorrow!
So I decided since there was no return address, no phone number and no explanation of who the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee" is, that I would call the Wasatch Health Department and find out what's going on... Here is what the public relations coordinator at the Wasatch Health Department told me after I read to him portions of the postcard over the phone:
"He said he had not heard of them endorsing Nile Horner and asked me to send the postcard to him... He gave me his email and I sent him the the postcard. He said he would call me back."
It would be very important for you to call the Health department at 435-654-2700 and ask them if they have heard of the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee."

I didn't stop there on my quest to find the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee" I also called the Wasatch County Sheriff's Department. Here's what the person on the phone said when asked how I can contact the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee":
"I have never heard of them until I received the same postcard you did."
I read to him where the postcard said "Councilman Horner is a proven advocate for... Law Enforcement."
He again replied that he has no knowledge of the group other than the postcard he received.

Then I called Wasatch County Fire:

When I talked to Robert at the Wasatch County Fire District about the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee" he also referred me to the Wasatch Health Department and said he never heard of them. I told him I called him because the postcard said Nile Horner is an effective leader and advocate for public safety and it made sense to call him because Wasatch Fire is about public safety and he said yes we are.
Then I called Wasatch Medical Clinic:

The lady Judy at the Wasatch Health Clinic said she has never heard of the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee" and gave me the phone number to the Wasatch Health Department.
Then I called the Hospital in Wasatch County:

The lady who answered the phone at the hospital said she has not heard of them and referred me to the Wasatch Health Department. She also said if I found out the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee" is part of the hospital to give her a call back. And she too gave me the phone number to the Wasatch Health Department.
I even called Heber City Police:

The lady at the Police Department went and asked someone who the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee" was and she was told to have me call the Health Department. She also suggested to call Paulette over at the City Offices and gave me her phone number @ 435-654-0757. I tried to call her, but the gal said she was out for the week...
I also did an extensive internet search and I looked in the phone book. After all that, I could not find the "Wasatch Health and Safety Committee." So if you find out who they are or how to contact them, please email me back.
I question the use of an endorsement from a committee that sounds like a department in the Wasatch County government...
I have since received an email back from the Health Department that says:

Danny,
Thanks for your concern this morning and calling in about it. Unfortunately, I have yet to gather any helpful information about the “Wasatch Health and Safety Committee.” I can confirm they are NOT a part of the health department and that neither we nor our subcommittees endorse candidates for office. I have reached out to Councilman Horner via email, (I called but he does not have a voicemail system) and I am awaiting his reply. I have also put up a brief statement on our website stating the same information. Our website is www.wasatchcountyhd.org.
Let me know if you have any more questions that I can help you with.
Thanks!

Thank you Dan for alerting our community of this situation. It is troubling to say the least. I too called the health dept. When I asked them what they made of it they said they could not condone nor talk negatively about any candidate. I too called Horner's home, their answering machine is not taking messages. If for no other reason I wanted to let his wife know that this is affecting her reputation as a person.
I was troubled by Nile's unprofessionalism at one of the city council meetings I attended recently. Unfortunately, when I have asked people why they voted for him, a few have admitted they voted off his last name recognition. Yikes! That is disconcerting to me as a citizen. Even though I am not able to vote in the city elections I am still very concerned county resident and how these antics, ploys and attitudes affect our community.
I appreciate you and Eric Straddeck for bringing these things to light.
my prayer is that the citizens of our city vote wisely and are able to see through this.
btw...i inadvertently did not post my name last comment...Ruth Holmes
