Heber City Council Meeting May 31, 2012

I try to go to as many meetings as possible.  If I can't make it to the meeting personal, then I follow-up with someone who did and I read the minutes to create this blog entry.  You always have the option to read the minutes yourself at the link below.

It was talked about giving the city employees a cost of living allowance (COLA) at the expense of $106,000 to the city.

Employees had not received COLA in 2009 or 2010 and in 2011 it was 2% and in 2012 there was a salary adjustment.  So in 4-years the city employees had only received a cost of living adjustment once in four years.  It was agreed to put it in the budget and if it was received favorably at the public hearing, then it should be approved.
City employees are hard working and deal with challenging issues as they balance the needs of their families with the needs of the community.  I think this COLA should be approved and that the city can afford to take care of their employees to promote the retention of quality staff who always have the option of leaving and going into the private sector or even to a different city that pays better.
