Lots of Budget Stuff going on this time of year at the city . A request was made by a councilman about putting a system to record the meetings and making them available online so citizens could watch the meeting from any computer. It was squashed, but why wouldn't they at least research want to make the meetings more available to all citizens of Heber?
There was also talk about how the School Board was upset about the unpaid impact fees for the High School. They felt they shouldn't be charged because they are a government entity. Mr. Shoemaker argued on behalf of the School Board to get the impact fees waived. Years ago the council voted to waive the fees and it was voted down. The High School owes approx. $168,000 in impact fees to the city.
The City is trying to treat everyone fairly and once again the School Board thinks they are above the rules. I'm sure they want to save the money for FAT SALARIES on un-needed administrators instead of paying the city for services the High School received from the city.
What's nice is the cities attorney made it clear to everyone that the fee could NOT be waived. They could be mitigated for improvements made by the high school that the city benefited from...
I need to follow-up with friends of mine that understand better how the School Board runs un-contested in our county and get back to you with more details.
Further discussion of Resolution 2012-03 (Compensation for Council Members on Boards) was struck down by McDonald, Mergist and Bradshaw.
Sad because this was the Resolution talking about City Council Members not taking compensation for sitting on Boards. Too bad some go into public service just to line their own pockets...
It was also brought up how city staff time is wasted by certain city council members to draft policy that is unnecessary and a waste of time. Our City Council was not elected to act as attorneys and write unnecessary policy. What a total WASTE!
